The Little Wonder Learning Center (LWLC) Illness Policy includes guidelines regarding fever, medication, communicable diseases, and return-to-center protocols:
1. Fever Guidelines:
• If a child has an onset fever of 99.7°F, parents may visit the center to administer over-the-counter medication.
• If a child’s fever reaches 101.2°F, they must be picked up immediately and cannot return to the center for 24 hours from the time the fever began.
2. Medication Administration:
• Over-the-Counter Medication: Parents must administer it during their visit.
• Prescription Medication: Only administrators are allowed to administer prescription medication. All prescription medication must:
• Be labeled with the doctor’s name, date, time, and dosage instructions.
• Include inhalers, nebulizers, and EpiPens, if applicable.
3. Reporting Communicable Diseases:
• All communicable diseases, including RSV, influenza, and other contagious viruses, will be reported to the Maplewood Health Department (MHD).
4. Return-to-Center Decisions:
• The decision for a sick child to return to the center will be made jointly by the LWLC Director and the Maplewood Health Department. This decision supersedes a doctor’s note, ensuring the safety and well-being of the learning community.
These policies reinforce LWLC’s commitment to maintaining a safe and healthy environment for children, staff, and families.
